The farm is a 60,000 square foot growing facility strategically located in the heart of Monterey Bay in Moss Landing. Named after Captain Charles Moss, who established a shipping port in the 1850’s, Moss Landing is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean in the west, Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve to the north and east, and farmlands of artichokes, strawberries and mushrooms throughout. Just ninety five miles south of San Francisco, the farm is 1/4 mile from the Pacific Ocean. A steady ocean breeze and northern coastal fog makes it ideal for a consistent outside temperature throughout the year and a perfect location to grow mushrooms.

Our goal is to provide a year round supply of high quality, organic mushrooms (Shiitake, Tree Oyster, Lions Mane, Maitake, and King Oyster) throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and California. Our family’s mission is to consistently produce quality mushrooms and provide customer service with a high level of commitment and dedication. Quality control is maintained through trained lab technicians who inspect all mushroom spawn to ensure pure mushroom cultures. Skilled care and attention are given to our mushrooms when growing, harvesting, grading and packing for freshness. The farm uses a balance of modern and traditional growing techniques in order to maintain high quality mushrooms while ensuring minimal impact on the environment.

Far West Fungi Farmers Market

Farmers’ markets are an old fashion method used by farmers worldwide to sell their products directly to consumers. The trend rapidly declined with the opening of supermarkets yet the idea of obtaining fresh produce is making farmers’ markets popular once again. Farmers’ markets are especially unique for people who live in the San Francisco Bay Area. It gives them the opportunity to purchase fresh, organic produce directly from small family operated farms. Since cities and towns surrounding San Francisco are rich in agriculture, the Bay Area markets are exceptional at offering a variety of produce to consumers.

The Garrone family, in its fourth generation, has been selling at Bay Area farmers’ markets for over fifty years.This has been the backbone of the family business. The markets purpose is to educate and introduce new farmed products to our customers at a reasonable price that may not be readily available in other settings. We take pride in providing an array of mushrooms to the Bay Area and enlightening our customers on the various kinds available. Since farmers’ markets are not just a place to purchase food but to socialize, we like to take time to answer any questions and offer helpful hints and recipe ideas for cooking our mushrooms.

Now that traditional markets have seen a revival, especially in the past decade, we now have expanded our markets throughout San Francisco and the peninsula. With this expansion, we look forward to enjoying old and creating new relationships while continuing our life-long family tradition.

Far West Fungi Retail Store

Far West Fungi, the San Francisco Mushroom Store, opened its doors on April 1, 2004. It is nestled in the beautifully redeveloped Ferry Building located in San Francisco CA. The Ferry Building is a historical landmark which once was the heart of San Francisco’s waterfront. It now houses one of California’s most prestigious outdoor farmers markets and an indoor array of gourmet food shops and restaurants.

Our goal as a family owned business is to create a unique shopping destination for our costumers in which they can chose from an assortment of quality mushroom products. At Far West Fungi, we show great pride and care in offering as many as forty-two different varieties of mushrooms. We provide the freshest and finest cultivated mushrooms from throughout California as well as fresh, wild mushrooms from around the world. Far West Fungi represents the finest mushroom products our industry has to offer including a wide variety of mushroom themed products ranging from dried mushrooms, pates, truffle oils and butter, marinated mushrooms, medicinals, dressings, sauces, books, gifts and more.
